A world where access to finance is no longer a barrier to the prosperity of smallholder farmers, their families and their communities.
Most of the world’s poor are farmers. Their livelihoods are dependent on a number of factors including access to seeds and other farming inputs, favourable weather conditions, and markets to sell their produce.
Financial services impact every aspect of a smallholder farmer’s livelihood. If a farmer can access financial capital at the right price, structured in the right way, the impact is huge. Sadly, though, much of the microfinance movement over recent decades has bypassed the smallholder farmer and only 3% of the demand for smallholder finance is currently being met.
